Soon there will be a new WriteBoat cruising the Lowcountry waters and beyond. Previously known as the IRISH ROVER, homeport Fort Launderdale, her new name will be “Slow Dance,” homeport, Mount Pleasant, SC. She’s a 2006 Mainship 34 T, sedan trawler. Currently, she’s on the hill at Ross Marine undergoing maintenance and repairs identified in the survey. Her previous owner did an outstanding job of upgrading her, but more about that later. For now, here’s her pic, still sporting her IRISH ROVER name. Soon she’ll be christened SLOW DANCE, and we’ll share more of the details that led us to make her our choice as the perfect trawler for a cruising couple with a “boatyard dog.” Stay tuned!

The 24th Annual Georgetown Wooden Boat Show was the perfect event to pull the community together following the devastating September 25, 2013 waterfront fire. A record attendance provided a morale and economic boost to the business community and South Carolina Maritime Museum. Beautiful boats. Beautiful weather. Smiling faces. A good time had by all. And a most appreciative community.

The boat building contest always draws a crowd. Hoperfully, the winning boat will be on display at next year’s show.

Maine boatbuilders were represented by a beautifully restored mahogany, 1958 Bristol Fisherman, owned by Douglas Wright, of Charleston, SC.

Imagine. 14′ 6″ of wooden boat with a 6′ 2″ beam. Add a 90HP Mercury motor. And you get 60+ MPH. The “Spitfire,” designed and built by Matthew Gunning, of Gunning Wooden Boats, gives a new meaning to “adrenalin rush.”
